Transfer Students
Students who wish to transfer from another institution must
submit a completed application, $25 nonrefundable application
fee, and an official transcript from all colleges attended, even
for one course. Students who have attempted fewer than 30 transferable
hours of course work also must meet freshman requirements for
admission (please see separate section on freshman admission)
and must submit official high school transcripts and SAT/ACT
scores. The SAT/ACT requirement is waived for applicants who
are 25 years of age or older.
A transfer student should complete the application process at
least 30 days prior to the anticipated date of enrollment to
allow sufficient time for transcript evaluation.
Transfer students should meet the following criteria:
Have an overall grade point average of 2.2. Applicants who have
less than a 2.2 grade point average but at least a 2.0 are reviewed
by the Admissions Committee, and if admitted, may be subject
to provisional status. Students with less than a 2.0 normally
are not admitted to the College.
Must be in good standing and eligible to return to the college
or university last attended at which they were enrolled full-time
in a degree program.
Must transfer from an accredited institution.
Evaluation of Transfer Credits
Once a transfer student is admitted, an evaluation of all courses completed
at all colleges attended will be conducted. Only courses equivalent to University
of Virginia or UVa-Wise courses are eligible for transfer. Transfer credit
will be awarded for grades of C- or better or CR for courses designated credit/no
credit. Students transferring from the Virginia Community College System
or Richard Bland College should see the section below. A maximum of 62 semester
hours earned from a two-year college may be counted toward graduation at
UVa-Wise.
