Auditions set for performances to celebrate Shakespeare's 450th B-Day

The theater division at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise plans to celebrate William Shakespeare’s 450th birthday by performing two of his plays and hosting a ProArt and American Shakespeare Center performance of a third play.

“As part of that celebration, we wanted to invite members of the community, high school age and older, to audition and participate in our fall theater productions of Macbeth and As You Like It,” said Professor Michael McNulty, head of the theater division.

Auditions will take place on Aug. 25 and 26 at 7 p.m. in the theater at of the Gilliam Center for the Arts. Scenes will be provided for auditioners to read, and additional theatrical or improvisational exercises may be expected. Callbacks may take place during the days following auditions, and prepared auditions in the form of two contrasting one-minute monologues are welcome, but not required.

Performances will alternate between the two shows in repertory on Thursdays through Sundays beginning Nov. 7 and ending Nov. 23.
