Civil War historian to speak at UVa-Wise

Civil War historian Anne Marshall will speak at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise on Thursday, April 3 at 7 p.m. in the Slemp Student Center. The event, which takes place in the Rhododendron Room, is free and open to the public.

Marshall is the author of “Creating a Confederate Kentucky:  The Lost Cause and Civil War Memory in a Border State.”  Her book explains that while Kentucky had been a loyal state during the Civil War, the romance of the conflict drove the state’s residents to embrace the Confederacy long after the last shot had been fired.

Marshall AnneMarshall is a history professor at Mississippi State University where she specializes in the Civil War era.  She is a native Kentuckian and a graduate of Centre College and the University of Georgia.

Those who would like to visit with Marshall prior to the lecture should arrive as early as 6 p.m.  For more information, call 276-376-1027.
