Clarinet Day at UVa-Wise April 23

Clarinetists of all ages and playing abilities are invited to participate in the Third Annual Clarinet Day at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise on April 23.

Clarinet Day will introduce students and others to UVa-Wise and its expanding music program. The program begins with registration in the Gilliam Center for the Arts at 9:30 a.m. Instruction and rehearsals follow registration.

Those attending will receive instruction from Carmine Campione, a renowned clarinetist who has performed for many years with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. He was appointed to the faculty of the College-Conservatory of Music of the University of Cincinnati, and has performed with many of the world’s great conductors. He retired from the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra after 37 seasons, but he continues to teach at the College-Conservatory of Music.

UVa-Wise adjunct music professor Suzanna Masters will also provide instruction.

Participants will perform in the Festival Clarinet Choir Concert in the Gilliam Center for the Arts at 3:15 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. Each player is asked to bring an instrument in good working condition. Reeds, clarinet supplies and clarinet novelties will be available for purchase. Campione's book, "Playing the Clarinet," will also be on sale for $45.

Participants must pay a $10 registration fee. The fee increases to $15 for those who register on the day of the event. UVa-Wise students, faculty and staff are admitted free with college ID.
