Faculty ‘Lunch and Learn’ presentation set for Feb. 16
UVa-Wise professors Rut Roman and Esteban Ponce will discuss their research and work in the Sarayacu community of Ecuador at the February “Lunch and Learn” presentation.
Located deep within Ecuador’s southern Amazon, the Sarayacu first came to international attention in 2002 when they fended off one of the most powerful transnational corporations in the world. Roman and Ponce will discuss their work to create a printed collection of trilingual Kichwa oral traditions to promote and foster a better understanding of the unique dialects of language and culture within the Sarayacu community.
At the end of the presentation, Tom Galyean of the Development and College Relations department will discuss how this project is being promoted for possible private philanthropic support.
The presentation takes place in room 118 in Zehmer Hall from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 16. Water and an assortment of soft drinks will be provided.
Faculty “Lunch and Learn” presentations take place on the third Wednesday of each month during the semester. The series is designed to showcase the extraordinary work and research being done by UVa-Wise faculty. Everyone is welcome and invited to bring their lunch to these sessions.
