Four UVa-Wise students are conducting research as Summer Scholars

Four students at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise are spending the summer researching various projects as part of the Summer Scholars Program.

The C. Bascom Slemp Foundation funds the undergraduate research. The funds are specifically provided for undergraduate research that falls outside the natural sciences.

Kevin Alsup of St. Charles, Va. is conducting an oral history project. Professor Brian McKnight is the faculty mentor for the project.

Cassondra Chadwell of Big Stone Gap, Va. is working with Professor Madelynn Shell on a project studying the link between gratitude and well-being.

Brandon Moore of Norton, Va. is working with Professor Zafar Khan on a project studying resources in Botswana and its possible implication for Southwest Virginia.

Heather Owens of Vansant, Va. is working with Professor Ashley Dickenson on a project involving lie detection, EEG and polygraph correlation.
