Inspirational author Phil Timp to visit UVa-Wise

Local inspirational author, Phil Timp will visit The University of Virginia’s College at Wise on Sept. 4 at 4 p.m. to meet with those in attendance and to sign his autobiography.

The event, which will be held in the Dogwood Room of the C. Bascom Slemp Student Center, is sponsored by the UVa-Wise Nursing Department.

Timp grew up in Wise County and attended J.J. Kelly High School. He later married his high school sweetheart Cindy Prince. In his book, Timp writes about the joys and struggles the family had when his oldest daughter coped with a neurological disorder called Rett Syndrome.

Timp was later diagnosed with ALS, better known as Lou Gherig’s disease, and he has spent a great deal of time lecturing on the struggles and challenges he has faced. His book, “Moments That Took My Breath Away,” has received positive reviews.

“Get ready to savor one of the most powerful autobiographies I have ever read,” New York Times Bestselling Author Adrianna Trigiani said of Timp’s autobiography. “It’s all here: love, faith, family and the abiding power of hope in the face of disappointment and loss. If you needed a primer to guide you through the travails of life, only to look up and find the silver linings, this is the only book you need ever read on the subject.”

Copies of Timp’s book will be available for purchase for $10 at the event.
