Live by the Lake Music Festival set for Aug. 28 at UVa-Wise

The Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion Concert Series returns to The University of Virginia’s College at Wise for the Live by the Lake Music Festival on Aug. 28.

The free concert series at UVa-Wise has brought some of the best roots, folk, and Americana bands to Southwest Virginia for nearly two years. The tradition continues as five bands-Holy Ghost Tent Revival, The New Familiars, Folk Soul Revival, J.O. Parsons and If Birds Could Fly-perform at the festival.

Holy Ghost Tent Revival and The New Familiars are festival favorites, and local group Folk Soul Revival is one of the hottest bands to come out the region. J.P. Parsons, a singer/songwriter from Bristol, and If Birds Could Fly, a rising folk duo from Appalachia, are performing in the concert series for the first time.

The event begins at 4 p.m. at the lake in the center of campus. Bring a picnic and a blanket, but alcohol is prohibited. In the case of inclement weather, the show will be moved to the Cantrell Banquet Hall.

William C. Horne, DDS, Pulitzer Orthodontics, Stewart Law Office, Pro Art, Tri-City Tent & Event, The University of Virginia’s College at Wise and the UVa-Wise Student Government Association are sponsoring the festival.

Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion is funded in part by a grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts, the Tennessee Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.
