Office of Career Services gets new name
The Center for Student Development is pleased to announce that the Office of Career Services is now called the Office of Professional and Career Development.
Why the change? The word “services” seems to convey the idea of a limited transactional activity, the most common being resume review. The word “development” better reflects the vision of the office: a partnership with students at every stage of their undergraduate education, one which eases their transition into post-UVa-Wise studies and careers.
The word “professional” signifies the concept that students need to acquire the skills and ability to connect their academic experience to work roles and life roles. It better reflects the department’s role in advising alumni and working with employers as well.
A serious investment in professional and career development can help students (and struggling alumni) identify and articulate their strengths, abilities and professional ambitions.
The office is still located in Cantrell Hall on the first floor. Neva Bryan, assistant director, may be reached at 276-328-0126 or email@example.com.
