Residence halls wireless in fall semester
Residence students at UVa-Wise will have access to wireless
Internet service when the fall semester begins this August.
According to Angela Lemke, housing director, each residence
hall will offer wireless once the campus completes the estimated $200,000 project.
However, the townhouses and the theme houses will continue with independent
service provided by Comcast.
Lemke explained that students have requested wireless
service for several years, but the estimated costs were prohibitive. The
housing staff worked closely with Chris Boggs in the Information Technology
department on a plan that was less expensive. The money for the project comes
from the Housing Department’s Repair and Replace Account, Lemke said.
“Wireless will help the students academically,” Lemke said. “The students can take their laptops anywhere in the residence halls and have access to Moodle.”
