UVa-Wise Spring Concert set for March 31

 

 

The UVa-Wise Wind Ensemble and the Highland Winds Concert Band will present their annual spring concert on Monday, March 31 in the David J. Prior Convocation Center. 

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.  Featured on the concert will be soloists Suzanna Masters, clarinet instructor at UVa-Wise, who will perform Carl Maria Von Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No. 1 in F Minor, OP. 73.  Also performing will be UVa-Wise graduate Ben Harding, who is the Lee High School band director. Harding will perform David Bobrowitz’ Divertimento for Tuba and Band.   

The concert will feature the world premier of Jim Wardell’s composition, Evensong.  Wardell is the director of the Center for Teaching Excellence at UVa-Wise. In addition, Ben Cantrell,  guest artist and adjunct percussion instructor, will conduct the Highland Winds in Richard Strauss’ Allerseelen.   

Other works on the program include Gustav Holst’s First Suite in Eb, Frank Ticheli’s Cajun Folk Songs and a medley of hits from the rock group Chicago.
