UVa-Wise to celebrate International Education Week

The Office of International Programs at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise is celebrating International Education Week starting Nov. 17.

International Education Week provides an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange programs that are available to UVa-Wise students. Organizers want International Education Week to provide a wealth of information for students who are considering going abroad to learn more about the world.

The joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of the College’s efforts to promote programs that prepare students for a global environment.

The Office of International Programs, in cooperation with the International Committee and student organizations, prepared several activities for International Education Week.

A luncheon for faculty and staff, featuring potluck international dishes is set for Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. in the Dogwood Room of the C. Bascom Slemp Student Center.

The Study Abroad Fair, scheduled for Nov. 17 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths, focuses on information about short trips and study abroad opportunities as well as financial aid. Representatives from several sister institutions and associated study abroad providers from Semester at Sea, API, IFSA-Butler, AsiaLearn and AustraLearn will be available to provide information.

The International Variety and Talent Show, set for Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. in the C. Bascom Slemp Student Center, will feature dances, fashion, poetry, songs and an international buffet with food prepared by professors and students who hail from such nations as India, Nepal, China, Pakistan, Ecuador, Indonesia, Ethiopia and Spain.
