UVa-Wise professor McKnight to appear on ‘With Good Reason’ Aug. 24 and 25

Brian D. McKnight, an associate professor of history with The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, will appear on “With Good Reason,” a radio production of the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, on August 24 and 25.

McKnight, a Lee County native, will discuss the notorious Champ Ferguson, a Confederate guerrilla who claimed to have killed over 100 Union soldiers and sympathizers.  According to McKnight, the author of “Confederate Outlaw: Champ Ferguson and the Civil War in Appalachia,” Ferguson was both a skilled fighter and a ruthless murderer who exploited the war for his own financial gain.

“One of the great questions is whether Ferguson was a cold-blooded murderer, a product of his place and time, or a combination of the two,” McKnight said.

"With Good Reason” is aired locally on WVTF at 7:30 p.m. each Wednesday and on WETS each Thursday at 8 p.m. The episode may be downloaded at the “With Good Reason” web site at www.withgoodreasonradio.org.

"With Good Reason” is broadcast on 10 public radio stations in Virginia, Tennessee and Washington, D.C.
