The District 3 award follows receipt of a Gold ADDY Award from the American Advertising Federation of Southwest Virginia earlier this year. District winners are forwarded to the National ADDY Awards competition.

The campaign submission, used for student admissions and general information, consisted of a college view book and envelope, travel brochure, campus map, application and open house invitation.

The College was presented the award on June 4 in the Chapel of All Faiths.

“UVa-Wise is a distinctive place and our goal with this project was to tell that story to future students,” said Rusty Necessary, vice chancellor for enrollment management and Student Life.

“Our partners in this endeavor, TWG Plus and Clinch Valley Printing helped us to do just that,” he said. “It is incredibly meaningful for that work to be recognized by the American Advertising Federation.”

The marketing initiative, developed in collaboration with TWG, Plus, a marketing firm in Matthews, N.C., shares a narrative of what makes the College unique. The campaign features a play on the College name to increase name recognition.

“At the same time, it develops positioning around the University of Virginia brand while differentiating UVa-Wise from Charlottesville,” said Jeff Bennett, a TWG Plus senior marketing consultant. “The overall graphic identity maintains and reinforces the UVa connection. The look and feel of the new campaign is designed to appeal to suburban prospects who identify as outdoorsy and who embrace the liberal arts focus.”
