UVa-Wise student killed in I-81 crash

A freshman at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise has died in a two-vehicle crash that happened on Tuesday, June 3 on Interstate 81 in Washington County.
According to the Virginia State Police, Abenezer D. Thewdros, 19, of Arlington, Va., died at the scene, along with passengers Abel N. Ayele, 19, of Arlington, Va., and Alemu S. Ameha, 25, of Alexandria, Va.
“We are saddened by Abenezer’s death,” said Chancellor Donna P. Henry. “Our prayers go out to his family and friends during this time of tremendous grief.”
Thewdros, a graduate of Wakefield High, enrolled at UVa-Wise this spring. He had planned to return in the fall. He planned to major in computer science.
