Wise Guys and Bluegrass Band to perform in Luxembourg
Two bands from The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will travel to the University of Luxembourg in June to perform at the third annual Transatlantic Dialogue Conference.
The Wise Guys and the Bluegrass Band are featured performers on June 5 at an outdoor stage in the heart of Luxembourg. The trip marks the first time that a group has performed outside of the United States.
Richard Galyean, director of bands at UVa-Wise, said the conference focus is to examine the critical role of culture and broad education for developing students who think broadly, recognize and respect cultural diversity and heritage, and whose engagement in the arts serves as a conduit to personal authenticity and innovation.
The conference takes place at Neumunster Abbey in Luxembourg on June 4-6. The bands will participate in all aspects of the conference, and the students will visit many sites in the city. The students will stay at a hostel with other participants.
The European Cultural Parliament, European Council of Student Affairs, CrossBorder Network of History and Arts, Institute for Cultural Diplomacy, International Yehudi Nenuhin Foundation, American College Personnel Association, U.S. Embassy and the city of Luxembourg are involved in the conference.
UVa-Wise is joined by the University of Luxembourg, Miami University, University of Ohio, Bowling Green State University, Northern Arizona University and the University Network of European Capitals of Culture in the conference.
