Scouts to fly quadcopter drones in first-ever indoor drone flight competition

The buzz of a hundred micro-drones will fill the air at the University of Virginia's College at Wise Convocation Center on Saturday, February 21st beginning at 9 AM as the first of its kind flight competition is held among participating Girl and Boy Scouts and other youth from throughout Southwestern Virginia and East Tennessee to measure the "Top Guns."

UVa-Wise Staff Council awards eighth scholarship

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise Staff Council has awarded its eighth scholarship to an employee of the College.

The UVa-Wise Staff Scholarship Fund, established by the Staff Council, provides support for tuition, fees and books at the College. The council is working toward establishing an endowment of $10,000.

Blood drive held in memory of UVa-Wise alumni

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise Winston Ely Health and Wellness Center and the Office of Greek Life invite the public to donate blood during the campus blood drive in remembrance of UVa-Wise alumni Brock Funk ’08 and Brad Hurt ’98.

The blood drive will be held Thursday, Jan. 22 in Cantrell Banquet Hall, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and will benefit the MARSH Regional Blood Center.

UVa-Wise and Universidad of los Andes sign sister institution agreement

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise has signed an agreement for an affiliation with the Universidad of los Andes in Santiago, Chile to support the exchange of students, faculty and research.

The agreement establishes an institution relationship offering study abroad and cultural exchange programs between UVa-Wise and the non-profit private research university.

Murray to speak about history of Gettysburg’s battlefield on ‘With Good Reason’

What happened to the Gettysburg battlefield after the fighting stopped is the subject of a Jan. 17 broadcast of “With Good Reason,” a radio production of the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities.

Jennifer Murray, an assistant professor at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, is the author of “On A Great Battlefield: The Making, Management, and Memory of Gettysburg National Military Park, 1933-2013” (University of Tennessee Press, 2014).
