UVa-Wise to offer high-tech cohort degree program this fall
Students have the opportunity this fall to pursue a bachelor’s degree in management information systems through a cohort program offered at the Abingdon and Lebanon campuses of The University of Virginia’s College at Wise.
Classes will be held at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon and at the Southwest Virginia Technology Development Center in Lebanon. An information session for the program is set for Tuesday, May 11, from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the SVHEC in Abingdon.
The MIS degree program is designed to prepare students for employment in technology-related management positions. Coursework will provide the necessary background for graduate work in the field.
The MIS cohort curriculum, a combination of business administration and computer science courses, is designed for students who have completed an articulated two-year community college degree.
The MIS cohort program is a strong effort by UVa-Wise to offer a high-tech degree program that is convenient for nontraditional students. The College also boasts Virginia’s only undergraduate degree in software engineering, available to students attending classes at the campus in Wise.
Students in the cohort program study together for the duration of the program. Part-time schedules for the cohort’s coursework have already been established, but students will have the option of full-time status.
Financial aid is available for qualifying students. Fall classes begin on August 18.
