A report issued this week by Virginia’s Joint Legislative and Audit Review Commission states that colleges and universities in the Commonwealth educate and graduate students better than most, but are among the nation’s most expensive for students.
Visitors to the Gettysburg battlefield today learn about the causes of the Civil War, slavery, race and flawed reconstruction as well as military strategy, tactics and artillery, but UVa-Wise Professor Jennifer M. Murray said that was not always the case.
Professor Curt Woolever didn’t teach UVa-Wise students how to get away with murder as his intriguing lecture Wednesday on the chemistry of gunshots hinted. Instead, he simply explained how chemistry and science could snare the guilty.
The UVa-Wise chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma, the national criminal justice honor society, is sponsoring a book drive for inmates at Wallens Ridge State Prison.
Professor Ashley Dickinson said the students took a recent tour of the prison and took interest in the library. The honor society decided to collect books to stock in the library and in the prison’s many pods.
