37th Annual Sigma Zeta Math-Science Contest at UVa-Wise Nov. 10

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will host the 37th Annual Sigma Zeta Math-Science Contest on Saturday, Nov. 10.

Any full-time student in grades 9-12 is eligible to compete for both team and individuals awards. Previous award winners are eligible to participate.

The team competition is based on school enrollment. The large school division is for schools which graduated 90 or more seniors last year. Schools with fewer than 90 graduating seniors will compete in the small school division. A school may be represented by no more than one team in math and one team in science. Each team may contain three members.

Team awards in math and science will be presented in both the large and small school divisions.

Thanks to a recent gift from Northrop Grumman Corporation, each first-place team will receive $400 and each second-place team will receive $200. The award money will be used for the purchase of classroom resources and materials.

Any eligible student may compete for individual awards in math and science. Individual awards will be made without consideration of school divisions.

Graduating seniors may compete for the Joseph C. Smiddy Scholarship awards. Scholarships valued at $1,000 will be awarded in both science and math and are renewable for up to four years of study at UVa-Wise.
