Tenure and Promotion Timeline

Submit resume, three letters of support, and other documentation (see Faculty Handbook). One letter should come from the department chair, another from a member of the candidate’s department, and a third from either a member of the candidate’s department or from a colleague from another department. The members of the candidate’s department should vote their support or opposition by secret ballot.

The members of the candidate’s department should vote their support or opposition by secret ballot. (When a department has fewer than three eligible voters, all members of the candidate’s department should vote to select faculty from another department who are eligible to vote on tenure/promotion matters to participate in the decision-making process. A minimum of three eligible persons must be designated.

The Department Chair will send a written recommendation, student evaluations, the Statements of Professional Activities (the preceding three years), the results of the department's secret ballot, along with any supporting documentation to the Academic Dean.

The Faculty Committee on Evaluation will comlete the review of promotion/tenure applications, observing AAUP guidelines. The chair of the committee shall inform the candidate of its recommendation, and the candidateshall have the opportunity to discuss the recommendation with the chair of the committee. The chair shall send a written recommendation to the Academic Dean, with copies to the candidate and the appropriate Department Chair.

The Academic dean submits to the Provost all materials for applicants for pre-tenure, tenure, and promotion along with her recommendations.

The Provost submits to the Chancellor all materials for pre-tenure, tenure, and promotion along with his recommnendations.

The Chancellor completes his evaluation of candidates for tenure and promotions and informs the College Board of those approved and denied.
