The University of Virginia’s College at Wise formally dedicated its Winston Ely Health & Wellness Center on Monday, Oct. 27 before a crowd of students, campus officials and the community.
The UVa-Wise Jazz Ensemble and the Highland Winds Concert Band will present their annual fall concert on Monday Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the David J. Prior Convocation Center.

The Appalachian Prosperity Project, a partnership among the University of Virginia, UVa-Wise, the Virginia Coalfield Coalition, the private sector and the state, was honored this week by Virginia Commonwealth University’s L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs.
Governor Terry McAuliffe has officially designated Oct. 26, 2014 as Napoleon Hill Day in Virginia.
McAuliffe signed the certificate of recognition earlier this month to commemorate Hill, his body of work, his teachings and his contributions to Virginia and the nation.
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise Office of Economic Development will offer Gluten Sensitivity & Gluten Free Diet on Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center, One Partnership Circle, Abingdon, VA.
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise kicks off its partnership with 19 Partner Campuses in the Red Flag Campaign on Oct. 19. The campaign is a nationwide program focused on preventing dating violence on college campuses.

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise and the Marching Highland Cavaliers will host the third annual CAV-L-CADE of Bands Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014.
Gates will open at 12 p.m. with the contest starting at 2 p.m. at Carl Smith Stadium. Bands from Virginia and Tennessee will compete for a grand prize of $1,000.

UVa-Wise professor Michael "O'D" O'Donnell wil be signing copies of his new book, "O'D II: Life Lessons, You don't need a reason to help someone," in the Slemp Student Center Atrium, in the Slemp Student Center Atrium, Thursday, Oct. 2, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 4 at the UVa-Wise homecoming game beginning at 11 a.m. under the tent near the bookstore outlet.

A grant from the Dominion Foundation will jumpstart UVa-Wise’s efforts to convert a campus house to an environmental field station designed to enhance student and faculty research.
The $25,000 grant will help the College turn the house, located on what was once called “faculty row” to the field station.

UVa-Wise will participate in a tornado drill on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 10 a.m.

The Confederate Congress approved the 1862 Partisan Rangers Act with the intention to ease the way for more southern men to join the Confederacy’s Civil War efforts, but it quickly got out of control and created many unintended consequences, said Barton A. Myers, a history professor at Washington & Lee University.

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise Center for Student Development and Athletics Department are partnering with the Virginia Department of Alcohol Beverage Control, Frontier Health Prevention Services and Planning District One Behavioral Health Services to address underage drinking on college campuses.
The Student Government Association and the Dean of Students are sponsoring a Safe Wise panel discussion on Thursday, Sept 18, to address any concerns students may have regarding recent incidents at nearby universities and missing UVA student Hannah Graham. Campus Police will offer personal safety tips as well. Safe Wise will take place at 2 p.m. in the Dogwood Room of Slemp Student Center.
