Storylines – Urbana University GameIn only the third game of the season, Mountain East Conference play begins. The Blue Knights recently ended a 33-game losing streak against California University of Pennsylvania on Saturday, and are still looking for their first MEC win in program history. Urbana lost 96-62 at Indiana University-Pennsylvania before defeating the Fighting Scots at home. The Blue Knights were picked 12th in the MEC Preseason Poll conducted by the leagues's coaches. Rodney Clark Jr. has led Urbana in the early going. He leads the team in points scored, 18.5 ppg, and finished 13-15 from the line. Ben Merritt has also played well, most recently turning in a double-double against California (Pa.) when he scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
About UVa-WiseJunior college transfer Blair Harding has been a spark plug in the UVa-Wise offense. The 5-9 guard is averaging 19 points per game in the early going while shooting 55 percent from the floor, 55.6 percent from beyond the arc, and 91.7 percent from the foul line. Sophomore guard Taylor Sandidge is the only other Cavalier to average double figures, the Waynesboro, Virginia native is averaging 14 points a contest while also handing out 3.5 assists per game. Saturday's game is the third of five straight away from the Prior Center to open the season for coach Kristin Kunzman's team. Last year, UVa-Wise posted a 6-10 mark in games outside of Wise.
WISE - - Sophomore Karley Allen has been named Daktronics First-Team Atlantic Region outside hitter. A Lanexa, Virginia native, Allen led the Mountain East Conference in kills/set at 4.19 while finishing with 394 total kills. Her 394 kills are the third most in any single-season in UVa-Wise history.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – UVa-Wise traveled to Johnson City, Tennesee Tuesday night to take on Division I host East Tennessee State. This game was the first meeting between the two schools since 2006. As was the case eight years, ago, the Division I Buccaneers put on an offensive display as five players scored double figures to race past the Cavaliers 111-66.
WISE - - Sophomore linebacker Zack Blair's record tying season did not go unnoticed. The Front Royal, Virginia product registered 95 tackles and tied the single-season record for tackles for loss at UVa-Wise with 26.5 en route to First-Team All-MEC honors. Teammate Terrence Younger earned Second-Team All-MEC while Randy Kumah, Trent Martin, and Jeff Parker earned honorable mention accolades.
Storylines – East Tennessee State gameAfter playing two regular season games, UVa-Wise will play an exhibition contest at ETSU on Tuesday. ETSU officially rejoined the Southern Conference this year, after spending the past nine seasons as members of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Buccaneers were picked third in the SoCon Preseason Poll conducted by the league's coaches. This will be the first meeting since 2006 when ETSU beat the Cavaliers 90-43. The Buccaneers are coming off a 90-76 loss against Valpo. Senior Jalen Riley led the Bucs Friday night with a game-high 27 points.
MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - - Sixth ranked Edinboro University lived up to its billing at the season opening Atlantic Region Challenge. The Fighting Scots completed the challenge with 78-65 win over UVa-Wise on Sunday to go 2-0 in the event.

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - - An 8-0 run mid-way through the second half would be enough for Millersville University as the host Maruders scored a 69-65 win over UVa-Wise in the Atlantic Region Challenge Saturday afternoon. Millersville's Carly Gallagher led all players with 27 points on 9-17 shooting. Gallagher would make a foul shot with 10 seconds to play to extend her teams advantage to four, ending any chance UVa-Wise had of a comeback.
WISE - - Trent Martin booted an 18-yard field goal on the final play of Senior Day 2014 to send UVa-Wise's nine seniors out victorious, 24-21, over Fairmont State on Saturday. Martin's game-winning field goal was aided by a 31-yard run by Carlton Griffith on the drive and a nine-catch 142-yard three-touchdown day by junior wide receiver Terrence Younger. Sophomore linebacker Zack Blair highlighted his season with three stops behind the line of scrimmage to put him at 26.5 for the year, tying the single-season school record.

WISE, Va.-- Two new coaches, a new philosophy, and six returners make up this year's men's basketball team at UVa-Wise. Second-year coach Blake Mellinger enters this season after having a full off season to implement his plans on both the offensive and defensive end of the floor. The former Cavalier forward has hired a pair of new assistants in Nathan Edick and Drew Absher to help the team implement a full-court man-to-man defense and an up-tempo offense.

Freshman running back Carlton Griffith is getting stronger as the season winds to a close. Griffith has carried the ball a combined 88 times in the last three games and has rushed for 100 yards or more in each contest. Last week, the Mt. Vernon High School product ran the ball a season-high 32 times for 105 yards and a touchdown.

Seniors Brittni Altmann, Veronica Sanchez and Ashley Hooven all played a key role in Saturday's victory as they aided the Cavaliers to the school's first winning season since 2007.

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. - - Dakota Conwell threw for 207 yards and four touchdowns as West Liberty University secured its eighth winning season in 10 years with a 35-20 win over UVa-Wise on Saturday. The Hilltoppers overcame Carlton Griffith's third consecutive 100-yard rushing performance and a pair of interceptions from Jeff Parker to secure their sixth victory of 2014.
