On Saturday, July 27, at 11 a.m., the Lee County Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee and the Appalachian Warfare Program at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will dedicate a Civil War Trails historic marker at the Seminary United Methodist Church.
Wally Smith, a biologist and professor with The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, will appear on “With Good Reason,” a radio production of the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, during the week of July 13 through July 19.
In conjunction with Sidearm Sports, the UVa-Wise Sports Information Department has just completed a redesign of the school's official athletic website, www.uvawisecavs.com.
The website now features new graphics of former and current-student athletes along with a more user friendly interface. The site is fully integrated with both Twitter and Facebook allowing fans to interact with other Cavalier fans on social media sites about stories, rosters and results.
The Marching Highland Cavaliers will hold its annual band camp in August. Percussion and colorguard members are to report on Aug. 9. Percussion and color guard members who are going to live in campus housing may move in from 9 a.m. until noon, with rehearsals beginning at 1 p.m. All wind players are to move in on Aug. 11 from 9 a.m. until noon, with rehearsals beginning at 1 p.m. Camp will conclude on Thursday, Aug. 15.
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise recently hosted
dozens of regional music students for its summer band camp for high school
students, a program that allows the youngsters to sharpen their skills and get
to know the campus.
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise nursing graduates
from the Class of 2013 accomplished something special this summer as all 17
passed their board exams on the first try.
