Ryan to deliver keynote at UVa-Wise Medieval-Renaissance Conference


Michael Ryan, an associate professor of history at the University of New Mexico and author of “A Kingdom of Stargazers: Astrology and Authority in the Late Medieval Crown of Aragon,” will deliver the key address at the Medieval-Renaissance Conference at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise this month.

Chuck Clisso, an adjunct art professor at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, has had an original piece accepted into the world’s largest art competition for the second year in a row.


Richard Peake to lecture at UVa-Wise on Oct. 1

Professor Emeritus Richard Peake will lecture at UVa-Wise on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths on the importance of poetry in society and the difference between enjoying the honor being known as a poet versus the actual hard work of writing poetry.
The talk will feature readings from his books of poetry and recently published poems, including a number from his recently published Earth and Stars.  Copies will be available for book signing after the talk.

Sarris to speak on the Civil War in Northern Georgia


Jonathan D. Sarris, a history professor at North Carolina Wesleyan College and a leading authority on Appalachia’s Civil War, will lecture at UVa-Wise on Thursday, Oct. 3.
