UVa-Wise garners LEED certification for buildings


The Hunter J. Smith Dining Commons and Commonwealth Hall, two buildings on The University of Virginia’s College at Wise campus, have received LEED certification for sustainable design by the US Green Building Council.

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will celebrate the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. on Jan. 20 with a dinner, music, lecture and a variety of performances.

UVa-Wise announces fall Dean's List

The fall 2013 Dean’s List at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise includes 346 students.

Students named to the Dean’s List must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale with no grades below “C-“ and must carry an academic load of at least 12 credit hours.

Amy Clark, an associate professor of English and director of the Appalachian Writing Project at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, is a recipient of the 2014 Outstanding Faculty Award by the State Council for Higher Education of Virginia.

UVa-Wise to celebrate Black History Month


The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will hold several special events throughout February in celebration of Black History Month.

The events commence on Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths with SongFest, featuring performances by Rev. Jake Ravizee, Changed, Ain’t I a Woman?, Heavenly Voices, Rich & Poor Frankie and others. 

On Feb. 12, a soul food dinner will be served in the Smith Dining Commons from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.
