Reinhardt Takes Both Ends of Twinbill from UVa-Wise

Waleska, Ga. – After sweeping conference foe Covenant College on Monday, UVa-Wise had the table turned on them on Tuesday. Reinhardt was able to fend off UVa-Wise comebacks in both games to record two wins both by 8-3 finals.

The Highland Cavaliers (8-9) were led by Jorge Laboy (Woodbridge, Va.), who posted three hits. Josh Verts (Winchester, Va.) added two hits and a double and Brad Robbins (Big Stone Gap, Va.) had a pair of singles. Mike Lang (Fredericksburg, Va.) doubled.

Game 1

After UVa-Wise plated a single run to start the day, Reinhardt (14-12) scored four times in the home first. Following a scoreless second, the Cavs cut the margin to a single run, 4-3, when Robbins and Verts line back-to-back run-scoring singles.

The Eagles were able to push home a pair of runs in both the bottom of the fourth and sixth frames off Cavs’ starter D’Andre Bussey (Va. Beach, Va.) for what would be the 8-3 final.

Game 2

Trailing 4-0 after five innings, UVa-Wise saw Edwin Narvaez single and Lang was hit by a pitch. Both runners moved up on a passed ball before Matt Hall had an rbi ground out. After a Laboy walk, Verts doubled to score two more runs for a 4-3 score.

Reinhardt recaptured control as the home team answered with four tallies of its own in the home sixth to make it 8-3 for the second identical final tally.

On the hill, Scott Cole (Stuart, Va.) logged the opening four innings where he allowed two runs and one earned.

UVa-Wise will have the weekend off before playing host to Bluefield College in a pair of Appalachian Athletic Conference contests on Monday, March 17 th starting at 1:00 p.m. at Stallard Field.
