Harrisonburg, Va. – John Bigley battered Southern Virginia pitching by lacing five hits and driving in seven runs as UVa-Wise won a pair of non-conference baseball contests, 6-5 and 14-8, on Tuesday afternoon.

Bigley (Woodbridge, Va.) doubled, singled and drove in three runs including the game-winner in the first game for the Cavs (17-15). He added three singles and four rbi in the late affair. Brad Austin (Hillsville, Va.) swung a good stick as well with three singles and a triple. Jorge Laboy (Woodbridge, Va.) added a single and a key second game three-run triple.

Josh Verts (Winchester, Va.) singled twice at the plate but was also solid on the mound. He fired a scoreless seventh for his third save in game one while grabbing the win in middle relief in the late game.

Game 1

Bigley lined a run-scoring double and drew a bases loaded walk to help UVa-Wise to a 4-3 lead in the third. Southern Virginia edged in front with single tallies in the fifth and sixth for a 5-4 advantage going into the final frame.

In the top of the seventh, Austin singled and Laboy and Robbins walked to load the bases. Matt Duffy (Martinsville, Va.) ground out to short to tie the game before Bigley singled home Laboy for the game-winner. Verts came on for a scoreless bottom of the seventh for post the 6-5 win.

Game 2

Leading 4-2, Bigley punched a two-run single to add to take the lead to four run margin. The Knights plated four tallies of their own to tie the game at 6-6 in the home fifth.

UVa-Wise produced the biggest at bat by either team in the top of the sixth. After edging in front 7-6, Laboy cleared the loaded bases with a triple for the hit of the game and a 10-6 score. The visitors would add one more in the trip to the plate and a pair in the top of the seventh.
