Boxscore

Wise, Va. – Milligan College rode the hot bats of Drew Anders and Dallas Crouch to blister the sloppy UVa-Wise baseball team to complete a weather delayed sweep, 9-3, in Appalachian Athletic Conference baseball action Monday.

The Buffs (21-23/7-9 AAC) completed the rain delayed sweep of the Cavs (22-19/8-8 AAC) after winning the opener on Saturday, 8-5. The visitors received five hits from the combined efforts of Anders and Crouch. Anders belted a solo homer and two singles while Crouch had the big hit, a grand slam and a single. Pitcher Nathan Fritz gave up two earned runs and seven hits with three strikeouts for the win while Jason Trivett picked up his second save in the two games in the final inning.

UVa-Wise equaled its opponent in hits with 10. Matt Duffy (Martinsville, Va.), Jorge Laboy (Woodbridge, Va.) and Brad Austin (Hillsville, Va.) lined two singles apiece. Josh Verts (Winchester, Va.) blasted his third homer, a two-run shot, in the sixth. Edwin Narvaez, Matt Hall (Hillsville, Va.) and Mike Lang (Fredericksburg, Va.) added singles.

Milligan scored a run in each of the first two innings. In the first, Brandon Murphy lofted a sac fly to score an unearned run before Anders made it 2-0 in the second with his solo homer.

Leading 2-0 in the top of the fifth, Anders started the at bat with a single and made it to second on a fielding error and score on the following batter to start the big frame. With two runs in, Crouch broke the game open with a grand slam to center field for an 8-0 lead. The Buffs added a seventh score before the top of the fifth was over to lead 9-0.

Verts hit his two-run homer in the home sixth to get the Cavs on the board, 9-2. Laboy hit a deep sac fly to center to score Hall, who had a pinch hit infield single, for the third run but Trivett retired the final UVa-Wise batter for the 9-3 final.

Cavs' starter David Jones (Amelia, Va.) was hit for nine runs but just two earned in 4.2 innings before Seth Frisby (Yorktown, Va.) fired a scoreless 2.1 frames to close the game.

UVa-Wise will round out its home slate in a schedule change twinbill Wednesday afternoon starting at 4:30 p.m. against Alice Lloyd College.
