Blue Raiders Edge Cavs with Run in Home Seventh

Columbia, Ky. – After taking a 5-2 lead in the third, UVa-Wise saw host Lindsey Wilson chip away at the difference until edging out the victory with the deciding run in the home seventh. The Blue Raiders scored single scores in the sixth and the game-winner in their final trip for a 6-5 baseball win Saturday afternoon.
The Highland Cavaliers (2-5) amounted only four hits after leaving seven players on the roster due to injury and sickness for the weekend trip. Brock Funk lined an rbi double as the lone extra base hit. Luis Roa, Matt Hall and Matt Duffy added singles.
Trailing 2-1, UVa-Wise put together a big four-run frame in the third. Roa led off with a single and stole second before scoring on a Hall hit. Brad Robbins drew a walk before Funk doubled both runners home. Edwin Narvaez finished the trip with a sac fly to lead 5-2.
Lindsey Wilson (4-1) pulled to within a single score, 5-4, in the home four with a pair of runs. The home team added a single score in the sixth to tie the contest. The Blue Raiders followed in the seventh with a leadoff single and a one-out walk before a passed ball move the runners to second and third. The next batter singled to score the game-winner for the 6-5 victory.
Robbins pitched the first three frames before Matt Begley suffered the defeat handling the final four innings.
The Cavs will play a pair on Sunday with games against Campbellsville and a second versus Lindsey Wilson.
