Kingsport, Tenn. – The Highland Cavaliers plated what would be the deciding four runs to propel the diamond squad to victory, 7-2 over the Buffs. UVa-Wise fell earlier in the day, 9-4, to Appalachian Athletic Conference champ Tennessee Wesleyan before taking Milligan College in the late contest to move on to the third day of the league tournament.
With the win over Milligan, UVa-Wise (28-20) will earn one of the four AAC bids to next week’s NAIA Region XII Tournament which will also be held at Kingsport’s Hunter Wright Stadium from May 7-10.
Brad Robbins produced a five for seven two game effort with a double and two rbi. Matt Duffy continued his hot hitting with four hits of his own while Jorge Laboy had three singles. Josh Verts and Edwin Narvaez added doubles on the day.
David Jones picked up the nine inning complete game win against Milligan. He allowed 11 hits, two runs but no earned runs to keep the Buffs at bay.
