Robbins & Duffy Garner VaSID All-State Diamond Honors

Newport News, Va. – Highland Cavaliers Brad Robbins and Matt Duffy garnered VaSID All-State honors announced on Wednesday. Robbins gained his second-straight selection to the all-state first team at designated while Duffy made honorable mention at utility.
The two UVa-Wise baseball players were the heart of the 2008 batting order on a team (29-19) which finished third in both the Appalachian Athletic Conference and NAIA Region XII tournaments.
Robbins makes his second appearance on the VaSID All-State first team after leading the Cavs in hitting again. He also was picked to the NAIA All-Region and All-AAC teams at designated hitter. The sophomore posted a .413 average with 78 hits, 18 doubles, 13 home runs, 49 rbi and a .725 slugging percentage. The Big Stone Gap, Va. native set the school season record for hits and total bases while ending the 2008 campaign on a 13-game hit streak.
Duffy proved to be a solid cog in the UVa-Wise lineup to earn his all-state honorable mention status. The All-AAC honorable mention pick split his time between third and first base while being productive in both spots. The junior from Martinsville, Va. lined 72 hits in 182 at bats for a .396 average with 16 doubles, three triples, three homers and a team-best 58 rbi.
