Duffy Claims Second AAC Baseball Player of the Week Honor

Wise, Va. – In his first year with the team, UVa-Wise has found a solid fixture in its infield.  Junior Matt Duffy blistered 12 hits in 17 at bats to claim his second Appalachian Athletic Conference baseball Player of the Week honor.

The corner infielder had his best two games last week when the Highland Cavaliers (26-19) needed it the most on Friday.  In the two AAC contests, Duffy (Martinsville, Va.) went seven of eight with four doubles, four runs and five rbi as UVa-Wise swept Bryan College, 17-7 (7) and 4-2.

The third-year player started the week with a two for three game against Milligan College.  He followed with a three for six twinbill versus Alice Lloyd College with a double and two-run home run.

Duffy has raised his average to .389 with 56 hits in 144 at bats.  He leads the Cavs and second in the AAC with 1.16 runs batted in per game (50 rbi in 43 games).  Matt also has a team-best 14 doubles to go with three triples and three doubles while scoring 28 runs.

UVa-Wise will next play in the AAC Tournament starting on Wednesday, April 30 th at 9:00 a.m. against Montreat College.  The tournament will be played in Kingsport, Tenn.’s Hunter-Wright Stadium.
