Wise, Va. – After watching an thrilling extra inning comeback on Sunday afternoon, Magna Vista High School’s left handed pitcher Stephen Kanode made his decision official to become part of the University of Virginia’s College at Wise baseball program next fall.

The future Highland Cavalier witnessed an extra frame victory over King College, 4-3, by the home team won on a suicide squeeze play. He will join a UVa-Wise club that comes off its most wins in program history (32-17-1) a year ago and a third place finish at the NAIA Regional Championships.

Kanode will take the mound for his fourth year as part of the Magna Vista High clue in the coming weeks. The 6-5 lefty logged 25 innings in the 2007 campaign where he fanned 28 batters and posted a 3.43 earned run average.

The incoming UVa-Wise hurler is the son of Barry and Susan Kanode of Martinsville, Va. and plans to pursue a degree in history.
