Laboy Solid Hitting Gains AAC Player of the Week Award

Wise, Va. – Senior Jorge Laboy picked up the UVa-Wise second baseball Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Week today. The short stop hit .533 to aid in the Highland Cavaliers going 2-2 over the Spring Break week.
UVa-Wise (10-9/5-1 AAC) swept Covenant College, 8-7 and 13-2, before losing a pair at Reinhardt College, 8-3 and 8-3.
Laboy hit eight of 15 with six runs scored, three runs batted in and three walks. He went four of eight in the two contests at Covenant before singling twice against Reinhardt.
The Woodbridge, Va. native continued his hot hitting with a three for four twinbill as UVa-Wise swept conference rival Bluefield College on Monday afternoon. He was one for one with a two-run homer, two runs, three rbi and two walks in an 11-3 opening win before going two for three with a run scored in the 3-2 second contest.
The C.D. Hylton grad is second on the team with a .391 average (18 of 46) with a double, two home runs and 13 rbi.
The Cavs will now be off until playing at Virginia Intermont is a Saturday doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
