Inaugural Stallard Field Baseball Night Game Set for Wednesday

March 24, 2008

Wise, Va. – After the eight light posts were put into place and tested out two weeks ago, the University of Virginia’s College at Wise baseball ‘Inaugural Night Game’ for Stallard Field received the green light. The evening contest will be a single nine-inning affair with Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Virginia Intermont coming to the Wise campus for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch.

The first night game will also start a season long project for the Highland Cavaliers. The team is trying to raise funds for sophomore Billy Fox who was recently diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. The UVa-Wise team will be selling purple wristbands with Billy Fox’s number on for $5 to raise money to help offset some of the upcoming medical expenses Fox will encounter.

The evening will not only be filled with collegiate baseball for the first time at night on the Wise campus but also hot dogs and hot chocolate will be provided for all in attendance to enjoy while watching the teams on the field.

The two squads just came off facing off last Saturday in which Virginia Intermont took both games of a doubleheader, 11-8 and 8-1. The Cavs will try to get back on track as they are 3-1 at Stallard Field on the young 2008 campaign.
