Robbins Selected NAIA Baseball Preseason All-American

November 13, 2007

Kansas City, Mo. – The University of Virginia’s College at Wise Brad Robbins was selected to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics 2008 Baseball Preseason All-America team.

The Highland Cavalier junior was picked as the All-America team’s designated hitter and one of 15 in the NAIA to be voted to the squad.

Robbins from Big Stone Gap, Va. had a break-out season a year ago while helping UVa-Wise to a school record for wins in a season and a 32-17-1 overall record. The team also place third in the NAIA Region XII playoffs, the first trip in five years to regional action.

The designated hitter earned NAIA Region XII and Appalachian Athletic Conference first team acclaim. He won the AAC batting crown and rated second nationally with a .479 average in 117 at bats. Robbins also was third nationally and tops in the league with a .923 slugging percentage. The junior rounded out his numbers with 34 runs, 56 hits, 16 doubles, three triples, 10 home runs and 37 rbi. He also went 4-3 with a 4.85 earned run average and 41 strikeouts in 52.0 innings on the mound.

UVa-Wise will open its 2008 baseball season on the road at Emmanuel College for a three-game series on Feb. 8-9.
