Cavs Baseball Weathered Out
April 27, 2004

WISE, VA -­ Today's UVa-Wise baseball doubleheader with Bryan (Tenn.) College has been postponed because of wet playing conditions at Stallard Field in Wise. No make-up date has been announced. However, the two Appalachian Athletic Conference games most likely will be played Wednesday. UVa-Wise host King (Tenn.) College for a three-game weekend series beginning with a single nine-inning game at 3 p.m. Friday. The two AAC teams will play a doubleheader (two seven-inning contests) Saturday at 1 p.m. in Wise. The AAC postseason tournament begins Monday at Cardinal Park in Johnson City, Tenn.


Cavs Squeeze by Crusaders in Opener, Soar in Nightcap
April 26, 2004

WISE, VA -­ Steve Proctor's (Williamsburg, Va./Bruton High) squeeze bunt in the bottom of the tenth inning scored Justin Wyatt (Wise, Va./J.J. Kelly High) from third and lifted UVa-Wise to a 2-1 non-conference win over Tennessee Temple University Saturday in game one of a doubleheader at Stallard Field in Wise. The Cavaliers had no intentions of going extra innings in the nightcap. The Wise nine exploded for a ton of runs early and went on to take a 12-3 victory over the Crusaders and improved to 10-19-1 overall this season. UVa-Wise was scheduled to play a doubleheader Monday against AAC rival Bryan (Tenn.) College at Stallard Field. However, rain in Wise Monday morning has pushed the games back a day. The two teams now are scheduled for a 2 p.m. double dip Tuesday.


RAIN OUT: Cavs Washed Out Friday, Play Two Saturday

WISE, VA -­ UVa-Wise's scheduled baseball game with Tennessee Temple University Friday has been rained out. The game will not be rescheduled. The Cavaliers and Crusaders will hook up for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m., Saturday at Stallard Field in Wise.


Cavs Rally from 8-0 Deficit to Take Win Over Second-Place Montreat

WISE, VA -­ UVa-Wise rallied from eight runs down and scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to take 9-8 win over Montreat (N.C.) College Sunday at Stallard Field in Wise. Justin Nixon's two-out single in the ninth plated Andrew Anderson with the winning run. more>>


Childress, Kiser Lead Cavs Past Wasps in 10 Innings
April 15, 2004

WISE, VA -­ Will Childress lead off the bottom of the 10th inning with a triple and Natahan Kiser singled to drive home Childress and give UVa-Wise a 9-8 non-conference victory over regional rival Emory & Henry College Thursday at Stallard Field. The Cavaliers jumped out early on the Wasps (4-25 overall), scoring six runs in the bottom of the first. However, Emory & Henry battled back and tied the game 8-all with a run in the top of the ninth. Childress and Justin Wyatt powered the Cavaliers' (7-17-1 overall) offensive production, getting two hits and a triple, respectively. Robert Cox pitched the 10th inning for the Cavaliers and earned the win, his first of the season. UVa-Wise returns to Appalachian Athletic Conference action Saturday when they host Montreat (N.C.) College for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at Stallard Field. The two AAC squads will wrap up the three-game weekend series Sunday with a single, nine-inning game at 2 p.m.


Cavs Drop Weekend Set at Union

BARBOURVILLE, KY -­ Union (Ky.) College scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Saturday to earn a 13-9 Appalachian Athletic Conference win over UVa-Wise in game two of a doubleheader. The victory gave the Bulldogs a three-game weekend sweep over the Cavaliers. Union won 14-0 in game one and 12-7 in a nine-inning single game to open the series Friday. more>>


Cavs Travel to Union for Tough Weekend Series

WISE, VA -­ UVa-Wise will have had a 10-day lay-off when they run onto the diamond Friday to play Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Union (Ky.) College in Barbourville, Ky. The Cavaliers were scheduled to play five games this past weekend, but all were rained out. The last time the 6-14-1 (4-10 in the AAC) Cavaliers played, they walloped Virginia Intermont College 14-3 and 16-3 on the road in Bristol, Tenn. more>>


Cavs Reschedule Washouts
April 6, 2004

WISE, VA -­ Two of the Cavaliers' five rained out games from this past weekend have been rescheduled. The washed out doubleheader from Friday will be made up Monday, April 26, in Wise. The first pitch of the opening game will be at 1 p.m. The Cavs' single game against Bryan scheduled for last Saturday and the rained-out Sunday twinbill against non-conference opponent Roanoke College have been canceled.


Cavs Weekend Series Moved
March 25, 2004

WISE, VA -­ The Cavaliers' three-game series against Virginia Intermont College scheduled for this weekend has been moved. The two Appalachian Athletic Conference teams will meet in Bristol, Tenn., for a doubleheader 1 p.m. doubleheader on Monday and a 2 p.m. single game on Tuesday. The games were rescheduled because races this weekend at nearby Bristol Motor Speedway.


Cavs Swept at SWU
March 23, 2004

CENTRAL, SC -­ UVa-Wise fell 15-5 and 5-3 Tuesday in a pair of non-conference seven-inning games played at Southern Wesleyan University. The Cavs, who dropped to 4-14-1 overall, resume action at 2 p.m., Friday, April 2 against Bryan (Tenn.) College at the Ballpark in Wise. The two Appalachian Athletic Conference foes will hook up for a doubleheader the following Saturday at 1 p.m. in Wise.
