Cavs Travel to Union for Tough Weekend Series

WISE, VA - UVa-Wise will have had a 10-day lay-off when they run onto the diamond Friday to play Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Union (Ky.) College in Barbourville, Ky.
The Cavaliers were scheduled to play five games this past weekend, but all were rained out. The last time the 6-14-1 (4-10 in the AAC) Cavaliers played, they walloped Virginia Intermont College 14-3 and 16-3 on the road in Bristol, Tenn.
Friday, UVa-Wise will face a streaking Union squad that has won 16 of their last 18 and are 18-2 at home.
The action between the Cavs and Bulldogs begins with a single nine-inning game at 3 p.m. Friday at Union’s Sanders Field. The two AAC squads will meet for a twinbill (two seven-inning games) beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday.
BASEBALL NOTES: UVa-Wise pitcher Ryan Boze ranks third in the Appalachian Athletic Conference in hits allowed this season. In eight appearances, the lefty sophomore from Hampton has given up only 33 hits. …Senior Andrew Shortt of Pound has allowed only seven walks in eight games pitched this season, ranking him third in that category in the conference. …Sophomore Will Childress of Huddleston is on a six-games hitting streak. Nathan Kiser (Lebanon, Va.) and Courtney Nowlin (Stuart, Va.) have hit safely in five consecutive games.
