BARBOURVILLE, KY - Union (Ky.) College scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Saturday to earn a 13-9 Appalachian Athletic Conference win over UVa-Wise in game two of a doubleheader.
The victory gave the Bulldogs a three-game weekend sweep over the Cavaliers. Union won 14-0 in game one and 12-7 in a nine-inning single game to open the series Friday.
In Saturday's nightcap. Will Childress helped power the Cavaliers' (6-17-1 overall and 4-13 in the AAC) offense, going 2-for-4 with a double, a homer and a couple of RBI.
Nathan Kiser also hit well in the game, going 3-for-4 with two runs knocked in.
The Cavs had tied the game at 9-all in the top of the sixth, but Union followed up in the bottom half with four runs of their own.
The rally was sparked by catcher Brandon Ketron's three-run home run after back-to-back singles by Derrick Wynn and Jake Allen.
The Cavaliers' Brandon Bates, who entered the game with one out in the fourth, allowed the four Union runs in the sixth and suffered the loss to drop to 1-2 on the season.
UVa-Wise will host non-conference rival Emory & Henry College for a single, nine-inning game at 3 p.m., Thursday, at Stallard Field in Wise.
