Cavs Rally from 9-0 Deficit to Take Win
April 19, 2004
WISE, VA - UVa-Wise rallied from eight runs down and scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to take 9-8 win over Montreat (N.C.) College Sunday at Stallard Field in Wise.
Justin Nixon's two-out single in the ninth plated Andrew Anderson with the winning run.
Will Childress and Nathan Kiser began the bottom of ninth with back-to-back singles. Jason Matlock then knocked home Childress with a double, bringing the Cavaliers to within 9-6.
Anderson then stepped up to the plate and delivered a two-RBI single, pulling the Cavs even at 8-8.
Montreat scored all of its runs in the game's first six innings and led 8-0 after five and a half.
The Cavaliers, however, were not as fortunate in the first two-games of the weekend series. Montreat took Saturday's doubleheader by scores of 11-0 and 9-5.
UVa-Wise next plays a single-nine game at 3 p.m., Friday against non-conference opponent Tennesse Temple University at Stallard Field. The two squads will play a couple of seven-inning games beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday.
