GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- UVa-Wise split a pair of non-conference seven-inning baseball games Saturday afternoon on the road against Georgetown (Ky.) College, winning the nightcap 8-5 behind solid pitching from freshman Brock Funk (Independence, Va./Grayson County High). Funk runs his record to 1-0 with the win. Carlos Ramos (Alexandria, Va./Mt Vernon High) and Jason Matlock (Damascus, Va./Holston High) each had two doubles for UVa-Wise. Georgetown (1-1) won the opener 5-1. Adam Burks got the win for the Tigers, and Keith Davis (Bristol, Va./John Battle High) suffered the loss. Sunday's scheduled single game at Georgetown was canceled because of rain. UVa-Wise, now 3-2, opens its home season Friday against Appalachian Athletic Conference rival Bluefield College. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Stallard Field in Wise.
