Cavaliers split non-conference doubleheader with PC Bears

WISE, Va. -- UVa-Wise scored at least a run in all but one inning Tuesday as the Cavaliers rolled past non-conference regional rival Pikeville (Ky.) College 11-5 in game one of a doubleheader at Stallard Field in Wise. The Bears, however, scored seven runs in the fifth inning and rallied from a 5-1 deficit in the nightcap to earn a split with an 11-8 victory over the Cavaliers. Freshman Brock Funk (Independence, Va./Grayson County High) pitched five innings, allowing three runs on four hits for the game one victory. Chris Tenney (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam High) pitched a scoreless seventh to pick up the save. David Jones (Amelia, Va./Amelia County High) suffered the game two loss for the Cavaliers, who now stand at 5-13 overall. Adam Lesshafft was the winner for Pikeville UVa-Wise will be back at Stallard Field Friday to begin a three-game Appalachian Athletic Conference series with Virginia Intermont College.
