STALLARD FIELD
Stallard Field opened its gates on a chilly day in late-February on the opening day of the 2004 baseball season in Wise.
On February 20th of 2004, UVa-Wise was able to prevail in the inaugural game played on the new Stallard Field. The Cavs defeated Appalachian Athletic Conference rival Bluefield College, 7-3.
Stallard Field is named in honor of local coaching legend, the late Burchell Stallard. In March 2004, the UVa-Wise Board, upon recommendation from the College’s Committee on Names, approved the park to be called Stallard Field. The ballpark was dedicated later that year in September.
UVa-Wise Athletic Director Ray Spenilla said Iloe Stallard’s contribution along with countless contributions from others have made the new ballpark a point of pride fro the College and its supporters.
The stellar facility has become a favorite to all teams and more importantly the Cavs to play upon. The baseball teams no longer have the same worries as with the old Alumni Field, which was on the same location as the new field. The old field was notorious among players and coaches for its poor playing conditions.
Stallard Field gives no such fears with its meticulously manicured infield and the soft, smooth bluegrass outfield.
The beautiful Stallard Field is now the proud home of Cavalier baseball for many years to come and a true place incoming recruits would love to spend their collegiate careers on a minor league baseball quality facility.Denotes Appalachian Athletic Conference game.
