November 11, 2005
Bluefield, VA – After winning a week ago by two points in overtime, the University of Virginia's College at Wise men's basketball won by the same margin over Southern Virginia. The Highland Cavaliers swept the unusual season series by a 49-47 at the Bluefield College Classic Friday night.
The Knights took a two-point lead into the intermission in a low-scoring first half, 23-21. Despite shooting only 32-percent from the field, UVa-Wise (3-1) was able to outlast Southern Virginia in the second half, 28-24, and prevailed 49-47 for the second-straight Friday night two-point victory.
Parker Gemmell paced the Cavs hitting for 11 points while Seth Gibson added 10 tallies including two three-pointers. Freshman Zydrunas Rackauskas grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and chipped in nine points.
UVa-Wise will next face Tennessee Temple in the second day of the Bluefield College Classic. |
