DI Longwood Takes Care of UVa-Wise Men’s Hoops

Farmville, VA – Longwood University rode a 20-point first half lead to a going away men’s basketball victory over the University of Virginia’s College at Wise. The NCAA Division I Lancers stopped their 22-game losing streak against the NAIA DII Highland Cavaliers by a 93-49.
Carlos Goodwyn (Suffolk, VA) paced the Cavs with nine points on the afternoon. Jarred Soles (Yorktown, VA) added seven tallies and six rebounds while both Parker Gemmell (Bristol, VA) and Zydrunas Rackauskas chipped in seven points apiece.
Longwood (1-3) outplayed UVa-Wise (4-5) in every facet of the game. The Lancers won both the turnover battled (21 to nine) and reboounds (51 to 32). The home team shot 47% for the game while holding the Cavs down to only 26.9% (seven of 26) in the second half on the day.
UVa-Wise will return to Appalachian Athletic Conference action at home Tuesday night when they host Union College for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
