UVA-Wise Returns to Win Column by Taking Virginia Intermont

Bristol, VA – The UVA-Wise men’s basketball squad returned to the win column Tuesday night on the road. The Highland Cavaliers won both halves on the night to take the Virginia Intermont Cobras, 66-54.
Junior wing Jarred Soles claimed top honors with 18 points as the Cavs (5-7) took their Appalachian Athletic Conference mark to 2-1. Soles dished out three assists and stole five balls to round out his line. Pance Kecev produced a season-high 11 points while Zydrunas Rackauskas added 10 tallies on three of four attempts and six caroms. Bryan Sexton contributed eight points and a team-best seven rebounds. Travis Brannon dumped in eight points as well.
UVA-Wise hit 11 of 22 shots (50.0%) in the deciding half. The Cavs were lost the board battle, 41-38, while they forced the Cobras into 22 turnovers to only 14 of their own.
The Cavs led 30-23 at the intermission before winning the second half on the scoreboard, 36-31, and the game 66-54.
The Cobras had one double figure scorer in DeShon Moore who scored 13 points. Michael Scorsome grabbed nine rebounds.
UVA-Wise will continue on the road with a 7:30 p.m. AAC bout at King College.
