King Slides Past UVA-Wise Men

Emory, VA – After an opening half almost played to a draw, King College opened a seven-point lead in the first five minutes of the latter half before sliding past UVA-Wise men's basketball. The Tornado was able to outscore the Highland Cavaliers' 47-41 in the second stanza to claim a 77-70 victory in the Appalachian Athletic Conference affair.
King (7-5/2-2 AAC) increased its lead to 52-41 halfway through the second frame. Joey Blackwell hit two late three-pointers with the second pulling the Cavs to within four points, 69-65, with 36 seconds. The Tornado outscored the Cavs 8-5 in the final half minute for the 77-70 final.
Blackwell had a season-best 22 points on four of six shooting, three of five from long-range and 11 of 11 from the foul line. Sophomore Zydrunas Rackauskas just missed a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. Jarred Soles added 16 points with four treys and two assists. UVA-Wise was outrebounded 39-27 and committed five more turnovers, 16-11.
Guard Nick Pasqua led the home team with 17 points. Torrington Cox scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half to go with nine caroms. Clarence Smith chipped in 10 points and 11 rebounds. Tate Burroughs had 10 points.
UVA-Wise will now be off for finals week before hosting Berea College on Monday, Dec. 18th at 7:30 p.m. on 'Can' Food Night.
