Highland Cavaliers' Comeback Falls Short Against Lions

Dayton, TN - The Highland Cavaliers' comeback fell short as the host Lions took the Appalachian Athletic Conference men's hoops contest Saturday. Bryan College led by eight at halftime and was able to hold on for a 65-61 defeat of UVA-Wise.
Junior Jarred Soles had the big night on offense for the Cavs (6-15/3-7 AAC) with 27 points on seven of 15 attempts. The guard added six rebounds. Zydrunas Rackauskas posted a double-double by hitting for 14 points and grabbing 12 caroms. Bryan Sexton chipped in 10 tallies.
Bryan (3-16/2-8 AAC) had three double digit scorers in the winning effort. Versell Wells had team highs of 18 points (nine of 15) and seven boards. Kyle Terry and Jerome Stancil added 12 and 10 points.
The Lions built an eight-point, 30-22, first stanza lead by hitting 44.8% (13 of 29) to the Cavs' 30.0% (6 of 20). UVA-Wise reversed the percentages (47.6 to 38.1%) in the second half but was not enough to fall 65-61.
The Highland Cavaliers will trek to Covenant College for a 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night affair.
