Soles & Rackauskas Big Days Not Enough for UVA-Wise to Win

Athens, TN – Jarred Soles and Zydrunas Rackauskas combined for 50 points and 14 rebounds but was not enough for UVA-Wise to win Saturday afternoon as Tennessee Wesleyan prevailed, 74-64.
The Bulldogs stayed in the race for the Appalachian Athletic Conference lead by taking their league record to 11-3 and 16-8 for the season. UVA-Wise went to 7-19 and 4-10 in the AAC.
Soles (Yorktown, VA) pumped in 29 points by making 10 of 14 attempts including six of nine from three-point range. Rackauskas was the force inside for the Cavs with six of 13 shots and nine of 11 free throws for 21 points to go with 11 caroms. Seth Gibson (Wytheville, VA) added seven tallies and seven rebounds while Joey Blackwell (Kingsport, TN) handed out five assists and seven rebounds. The Cavs outrebounded their opponent 40-28 but committed 10 more turnovers (22 to 12).
Tennessee Wesleyan had four starters in double digits. Zach Gulmire was the top player with 23 points and John Ferguson added 13 points inside. Quinton Marion and Mark Riden had 11 points apiece.
The Bulldogs held a 41-34 advantage at the intermission and the Cavs could not make up the difference to fall 74-64.
UVA-Wise will entertain Montreat College for a 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night tip-off.
